Dennis
Morris / Dreamtime / June 2005.

Digimura
was selected to create the stunning backdrop for
Dreamtime, Dennis Morris’ exhibition of
photography at Spectrum Fine Art gallery in London.
An Internationally celebrated photographer, Morris
is well known for his iconic photo portraits of
Bob Marley and Johnny Rotten, as well as his photographic
documentation of British black culture in the 70’s.
His latest show, Dreamtime, takes its inspiration
from a recent trip to Australia, where Morris visited
the Aboriginal Mowanjum community, situated in
the
West Kimberly region. The photographs record a
unique and little known community, featuring images
of rites of passage, indigenous ceremonies and
ordinary aspects of the daily lives of his subjects.
Digimura’s Tactile swathed the walls of
the gallery displaying Morris’s landscape
prints bearing the vivid blue skies and earthy
desert of the Australian Outback, and enhancing
the immediate reaction to the photographs. The
backdrop created the perfect ambiance within the
gallery, and added another dimension to the exhibition
through giving a real feeling for the geographical
environment that Morris was working in.

Dennis
Morris says of Digimura: “I was interested
in applying a new technique to the physical space
in which my work is displayed and viewed, and was
looking for an innovative and high-quality product
that could encapsulate the sensory nature of the
photographs and the overall mood of the art. Without
a doubt, the inclusion of the Digimura installation
has contributed greatly to the impact of the Dreamtime
exhibition”.
“We chose to use Digimura’s tactile
finish as it added a subtle depth to the panoramic
background image, and enhanced the photographic
studies rather than overwhelming them. We were
also impressed by the fabric look of the wallcovering
as it gave the impression of a feature that was
integral to the exhibition rather than an afterthought
in temporarily dressing a space”.
